Revenue Streams
OK, so it’s a bit weird talking about DUCK like it’s a big company, but big companies make big money, right? And that’s what we want DUCK to do. The purpose of the exercise is to look at where DUCK raises its money from: to see if all the available ’streams’ are being tapped, and to see if they are all being tapped well. A table will help.
The columns show where the money comes from, and each row represents something that makes money.
| Local Population | Students | National population | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sponsored stuff | |||
| Hitch-hikes | Mainly | A bit | |
| Jailbreak | Mainly | A bit | |
| Marathons | Some | Some (friends, family) | |
| Random Stuff | |||
| Expeditions | Lots | Lots | |
| Events | |||
| DUCK Race | Lots | Lots | |
| Bak 2 School etc. | All | ||
| Rag Raids | Some | Mainly | |
| Overall… | |||
| A bit | Almost all | A bit | |
Excuse me being geeky with the table for just a moment, and you can straight away see:
- Most of DUCK’s money comes from students.
- DUCK is recognised by locals, but few things strike a chord with them.
- Money from the wider population comes either from family/relatives sponsoring expeditions, or rag raids
A question which should be ignored is; “should DUCK raise cash from within the university? Or without?”. The answer is obviously: “both” To really do super-dooper well, we want to maximise earnings from students, and maximise earnings from elsewhere. The student stream is well covered- but perhaps the local population can be tapped a bit more… here’s where reputation: locals comes in. Also note the complete absence of a university staff column.
